Kennedy's Disease Association

Kennedy Disease Association logo Kennedy's Disease Association (KDA) was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2000, to help fill a void in the fight against Kennedy's Disease (also known as Spinal Bulbar Muscular Atrophy). Kennedy's Disease is a rare neuro-muscular disease that currently has no cure or treatment. It is an adult onset disease - usually affecting men - that attacks the muscular system and can affect speech and swallowing abilities. The symptoms of Kennedy's Disease are similar to those of Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS); as a result, KD patients are often misdiagnosed.

The KDA was formed to help support people living with KD, as well as those who work to fund research grants and educate the public about the disease. The association holds annual conferences, has funded four research grants, and supports a worldwide membership of over 700 people affected by Kennedy’s Disease. Currently, the biological prerequisites for KD are unknown; with more research, experts hope to identify genetic triggers and develop a treatment, or, perhaps, a cure.
